New plan for homes on chicken farm site

- BY JAMIE LOPEZ

DEVELOPERS want to build an estate of 83 affordable homes on a former chicken farm.

Forth Homes and Adactus Housing Association have together submitted an application to build a mixture of houses and apartments on the disused land off Moss Lane, Halsall.

The site, which is off Brookside Road and is very close to the border with Birkdale, was previously used for egg production but has been empty for more than 10 years.

An application to build 59 homes on the land was approved last year, but now new plans have been put forward by different developers.

The new scheme also involves demolishing the remaining farm building and proposes 100% affordable housing, split between affordable rent, rent to buy and shared ownership.

It comprises 75 houses and eight flats and of the homes, 47 will have two bedrooms, 27 will have three, and six will have four.

According to the application, the proposals will help the council and its residents by making use of a brownfield state and helping towards its shortfall of affordable housing.

It also states that the sizes and layout of the homes have been designed to match existing properties in the area.

The application concluded: “In our view the new scheme detailed in the submission, consisting of 83 dwelling houses would make a positive contribution to the area, creating a continuation of existing street form and massing, and providing high quality affordable living accommodation within a well-designed public realm and landscaped environment.”
