Park thugs kick boy, 15, on head repeatedly

- BY LUKE TRAYNOR & JENNY KIRKHAM

A15-YEAR-OLD boy was ambushed by a gang as he walked home from school in a “disgraceful” unprovoked attack.

Three teenagers jumped the victim as he made his way through KGV Recreation Ground, in Maghull, punching him to the floor and kicking him repeatedly to the head as he lay defenceless.

The boy, who does not want to be named, sustained suspected swelling to his brain, a broken nose, two black eyes and cuts to his face.

After the assault, at 4.40pm on Friday, November 22, the teen walked back to his school where shocked teachers rang 999 and called for an ambulance.

The victim spent several hours in Ormskirk Hospital, where he underwent a brain scan and was found not to have any serious damage.

Detectives described the assault, near Maghull High School, Ormonde Drive, as “disgraceful”.

Det Insp Lee Wilkinson said: “This was a disgraceful and sustained assault of a teenage boy, who was thankfully not more seriously injured, and we’re determined to find those responsible. I’d encourage any witnesses or anyone else who holds information, whether young people, their parents and carers, to come forward, and we will take the appropriate action.”

A close friend of the boy said: “He is scared about repercussions.

“He was suddenly punched in the face, from behind, and when he fell to the floor, he just curled up in a ball, with his head in his hands to protect himself.

“He’d stayed after school for another hour, so, when he was walking home, he was on his own, and quite isolated.

“It was pretty dusky at 4.40pm, and we still don’t know the motive. Nothing was stolen, neither his mobile phone or his coat, which is quite expensive.

“These lads appear to have just targeted him for kicks.”

The three offenders were wearing dark clothes with their hoods up, and were aged around 14-16.

A local dog walker was on the field at the time, and saw most of the attack and shouted at the thugs to stop. They ran away.

It is thought that the attackers do not go to the same school as their victim.
