Fatal car crash probe: police hold second man

- BY JAMIE LOPEZ

ASECOND suspect has been arrested in connection with the crash which left two young men dead in Burscough.

A 20-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Tuesday last week, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and burglary.

He has since been bailed pending further inquiries until Monday, December 23.

Another Liverpool man, aged 26, was arrested five days earlier on suspicion of the same offences and was bailed pending further inquiries until Friday, December 27.

The police investigation concerns the incident that killed Conner Stevens, 24, and Luke PeaurtMoran, 18, when an Audi S1 crashed into two walls and a telegraph pole on Moss Lane, in the early hours of Wednesday, November 20.

The car had been stolen from a property in Ecclestion, near Chorley, along with another car which detectives believe was with the Audi at the time of the crash.

That car, a Fiat 500 Abarth, was later found in Crosby and, before the arrests were made, police appealed directly to the occupants to come forward and give answers to the families of the deceased.

Police say that Luke and Conner’s families have been informed and continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.

Flowers and personal items have been placed at the scene of the crash paying tribute to the young men, including food, drinks and a pair of ski goggles.

In a tribute released through the police, Conner’s family described him as being “loved by all who knew him”.

He was, they said, “not an angel, but a kid who would do anybody a good turn.

“He would brighten any room up with his bubbly character and his gorgeous smile.

“He loved his bikes, partying and being a little rebel showing off.”

Anyone able to provide any information about the incident should call police on 101, quoting incident reference 114 of November 20.
