Why not join the fun of the festive run?
FOUR parkruns in Ormskirk, Skelmersdale and Southport have confirmed their festive season calendar of events.
They are encouraging participants, old and new to join the fun.
Ormskirk parkrun, held at Edge Hill University, will be hosting its now traditional Christmas Day 5km run at 9am, with runners from all over West Lancashire attending for a bit of pre-Christmas dinner exercise, plus a quick carol or two.
Southport will also be donning the Santa hats for a Christmas Day event at 9am.
On New Year’s Day there will be a chance to “do the double”, with a parkrun starting at Edge Hill at 9am, followed by Tawd Valley (Skelmersdale) parkrun’s New Year special at 10.30am, starting from next to Skelmersdale Library, or at Southport parkrun (also 10.30am).
Runners can choose to do one or two or are welcome to don hi-viz for a bit of marshalling.
The usual 5k parkruns will take place at 9am on Saturday, December 21 and 28 and January 4 at both venues.
For younger parkrunners, 2km events will take place at Skelmersdale on
Sunday, December 22 and 29 and then on January 5. All begin at 9am.
Tawd Valley event director Paul Cotterill said: “All the parkrun teams in the area looking forward immensely to putting on the runs over Christmas and New Year.
“This will be our first New Year event at Tawd Valley, and it will be a great opportunity for people who’ve not yet joined in to do, whether or not as part of a New Year’s resolution. We work closely with our friends at Ormskirk and Southport, who have been a huge help in our early days here, and we are looking forward to seeing each other again”
To take part, go to www. parkrun.org.uk to register, and print off a barcode.
Turn up 15 minutes before the free event starts for a quick briefing.
The 5km parkruns are for adults and children, with under-11s needing adult accompaniment.
The 2km parkrun at
Skelmersdale is designed specifically for four to 14-year-olds, and children can run on their own (a marshal on the circuit always has sight of a child) or with an adult.
