Men-aces take on the boys in blue

SKEM Men-aces Disability Football Team were up against it this Tuesday as they were propelled into a surprise fixture.

The Men-aces were expecting their usual training session, however, to their surprise in walked Skelmersda­le and Chorley Police Officers and it was game on.

The sports hall was full of excitement the Men-aces were in awe as the game got under way.

The Men-aces were split into three teams of different ability, and in the spirit of brilliant sportsmans­hip the Police played to each level with dignity and respect.

some great football was played as the Men-aces were cheered on by family and friends.

As the third game started, the Police soon realised that this was the real thing and that they were in a game and the tempo rose along with the atmosphere.

The afternoon proved to be a fantastic display of football which saw the Men-aces lift the Friendship Cup.

The Police then chose three players to award man of the match, and they were John Duckers, Alan Dale and Theo Duke while Duckworth Junior gained Man of the Match for the Police.

Carl Eaton, Skem Men-aces coach said: ”The whole experience was welcomed as we know how busy the police are, and we are extremely grateful for giving us the opportunit­y.

“For the lads, it was not just a football because as a club we are always looking for new experience­s.

“We would like to say a special thank-you to Keith Duckworth for arranging it for us – and we have promised each other that this will be a regular event.”
