‘Shining star’ Edge Hill graduate Megan, 22, dies in crash

-

AN EDGE HILL graduate described as a “shining star” died in a car crash aged 22.

Tributes have been paid to aspiring teacher and “oustanding student” Megan Byrne after she died in a crash near her home town of Blackburn last week.

Megan died at the scene when the Mini she was driving collided with an Audi Q3 last Thursday.

In the wake of her death, her parents Joanne and John described Megan as a “loving and loyal beautiful woman with an exciting, wonderful life ahead of her”. They said she was dedicated to the teaching career which she loved and, in boyfriend Martyn, had met the love of her life “with whom she was at her happiest”.

In a statement released through Lancashire police, they added: “Megan lit up the room and blessed so many with her light without knowing it. She was loved by everyone she came in to contact with.

“Our lives will never be the same again as a shining star she leaves the earth and brightens up the heavens.

“Enjoy your birthday with Grandma, night night our perfect precious princess, rest in peace.”

Her brother Joshua added: “As your little brother, you were a huge influence and a massive role model for me.

“You were my polar opposite but you taught me so much.

“You gave me confidence with your bold personality and always made sure there was a fire burning in my heart.

“You were the best big sister anybody could ask for and it really is a shame, I only properly appreciate it now.

“I know you’re looking down on us wishing we could all be okay, but you made an impact everywhere you went.

“Life is going to be very different from now on, but it’s important that you are remembered although you will definitely never be forgotten. Rest in peace Megan, I loved you so much, Josh.”

A spokesperson for Edge Hill University said: “We are deeply saddened to hear that Edge Hill University graduate Megan has died in such tragic circumstances.

“She was an outstanding student and staff in the primary education department have expressed their sorrow at the news.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family, friends and everyone who spent time with her at Edge Hill.”

The driver of the Audi, a 31-year-old woman from Blackburn, suffered minor injuries in the collision and police are asking any witnesses to come forward.
