TO CELEBRATE the launch of their new lifesaving swimming lessons in this Olympic year, Total Swimming Academies and Edge Hill Sport brought together over 200 local children and a host of Olympians for their Oceans of Fun event which included five-time Olympian and eight-time world record holder, and BBC commentator, Mark Foster last Sunday, February 23.

Sunday’s event, at Edge Hill Sport, was a huge success with over 200 local children exploring a wide range of Olympic activities from mini water polo, synchronized swimming and given got the chance to race the GB Olympians.

Feedback from parents included: “My children have attended the oceans of fun event at Edge Hill University today and really enjoyed it very much. It was brilliant event, my children were made up.” and “My grandson had a really great experience and would do it again anytime.”

Total Swimming Academies and Edge Hill Sport are delighted with the success of the new partnership, which launched in January this year and is providing swimming lessons to 400 local children each week.

Sunday’s Oceans of Fun event was great way to celebrate with the new swimmers, each where offered the opportunity to join in the fun and games and meet the Team GB Olympians.

Total Swimming Academies offers 3-11 years old the opportunity to learn this most important life skill with classes which combine learning with fun.

Set up by Liverpool born Olympic Medallist Steve Parry,

Total Swimming Academies is a nationwide organisation that delivers swimming lessons to 5,000 children every week in 20 venues across England and Scotland.

Discussing the partnership with Edge Hill University, Steve Parry said: “I am delighted with the new partnership with Edge Hill Sport and overwhelmed with the support from their team. The fact we can now give more children the opportunity to learn how to be safe and have fun in the water can only be a good thing, and with 400 local children already signed up after the first month we are confident this partnership is going to grow from strength to strength.

Throughout my career in swimming, I have been lucky to have so many positive experiences.

Swimming is a fantastic sport but it goes further than that – it saves lives. I can’t wait to see how many more local children progress on our programme.

We’re committed to offering all children the opportunity to come and try a free taster lesson so they can see what we are all about before joining”.
