McNally praises United’s ‘change in attitude’
PAUL McNally believes Skelmersdale United showed a ‘change in attitude’ after he made several changes for the 1-1 draw at Whitchurch Alport on Saturday.
United had lost three consecutive matches in the NWCFL Premier Division but rescued a point after Richard Brodie’s late penalty cancelled out Matthew Owen’s opener.
Alex Davies, Thomas Grimshaw,
Regan Jarrett, Jason Carey and Alex Griffiths were all reinstalled to the stating XI and McNally says his decision was justified by the overall showing.
“I think we’ve given a good team performance,” he said.
“We passed the ball around on a difficult pitch and were perhaps undeservedly a goal down.
“We stuck together, kept doing what we were doing and were just lacking when we got to the final third.
“I was happy with the performance today, it was good.
“From the last two games it was a change in attitude, a change in personnel responded.”
McNally revealed after the game that former Manchester United and Everton striker Sam Byrne is likely to miss the remainder of the campaign through injury while Daniel Murphy remains sidelined.
With Joe Herbert also away, the former Litherland REMYCA manager believes all rival teams would be finding it difficult without several star players.
“Sam will probably be until the end-of-the-season. He’s a long term,” McNally added.
“Daniel has had metal in his eye. He got it taken out the other day so as well.
They he’s another week or two maybe. Joe Herbert is in Australia.
“We’re missing a couple of big players. We are doing well with what we’ve got but we’re missing big players.
“Any big teams around the league if they were missing some of these type of players, they would make the squad stronger but we’re trying all our best to keep bringing players in.”
Skem United’s rescheduled match against Barnoldswick Town FC which was due to take place on Tuesday night was postponed again due to the wet weather. They face Bootle FC at home at 3pm on Saturday.
