Man, 36, faces murder charge after stabbing
ASKELMERSDALE man has been charged with murder after another man was stabbed to death.
Kristaps Muzikants was found with a single stab wound at a property in Acregate early on Saturday morning.
Police were called at 4.40am after ambulance crews arrived at the address and found the 30-year-old unconscious.
He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he died a short while later and a post mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.
Forensic specialists remained at the scene throughout the weekend and two people were quickly arrested.
A 36-year-old man from Skelmersdale was held on Saturday on suspicion of murder before a 30-yearold, also from the town, was arrested the following day.
On Tuesday evening, Janis Mikitovs, 36, of Acregate, was charged with murder and was due to appear before court for the first time yesterday.
The 30-year-old was released without charge.
Despite the charge, police are still urging anyone with information to come forward. Detectives have been trying to piece together Mr Muzikants’s final movements and are asking anyone who knows anything about the killing to get in touch. Det Ch Insp Gareth Willis from Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: “My thoughts remain with Kristaps’s family, who are being supported by specially trained officers.
“While we have charged a man our inquiries are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch with us.”
