Sanctuary is able to rehome guinea pigs and cats again

-

SINCE the coronavirus and resulting social restrictions, Woodlands Animal Sanctuary has taken its lead from the Government and other leading organisations as to how to continue providing its service.

The rehoming of cats and guinea pigs had ceased, in line with these guidelines.

Defra has now released updated guidelines, which allow Woodlands to once again rehome animals, albeit through a slightly altered process dherings to the social distancing guidelines.

The three-stage system is still in place, to ensure the best match between fosterers and their new pets, and complies with social distancing.

To find out about this updated system visit the charity’s website.

As always, cats and guinea pigs will be up to date with vaccinations, worming, flea treatments and will have been spayed or neutered as well as having been given the allclear from their vet prior to being rehomed.

For cats, four weeks’ free insurance with Pet Plan is available.

There is a request to purchase a bag of the litter and food that the cat or kitten is used to, in order to help the transition period to go as smoothly as possible.

Again, this will all be done in line with government guidelines.

To view the animals available for rehoming you can visit the website.

Woodlands has 20 kittens in its care, along with 20 cats varying in age. Although not all of these cats and kittens are currently ready to be rehomed, they will be in time so the change in guidelines is welcomed by the team, as once their pens are full, they are unable to take in any more cats or guinea pigs that may need help.

Because of the time team members are having to spend at the centre, now is a good time for anyone thinking of taking on an animal.

Welcoming an animal into your life is a big commitment, and will long outlast this lockdown, so Woodlands is asking people to consider the idea seriously and fully, and only apply if they are certain it is something they want in their lives for years to come, whether we are in lockdown or not.
