AN ONLINE balloon race has led the trustees of Hesketh Bank Community Centre to celebrate as they raised funds for their redevelopment.
More than £300 was raised for their new purpose built and fully accessible hall project through the race, which was organised by Ecoracing.co
Trustees chairman Steve Kirby said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the virtual balloon race and supported our fundraising. This was a change from our usual activities, necessitated by the current situation, so we are grateful that people took to it and hopefully they had some fun too.”
Ecoracing.co offers an ecofriendly and safe way to raise money during lockdown.
Participants were able to personalise their balloons and change specifications to improve their chances of winning. The seven-day simulation used live weather data to determine the progress of each balloon.
The money raised helped push them past the £394,000 target for the rebuild, which they still hope to have in place by the end of 2020.
