THREE local volunteer groups in West Lancashire have received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The Parbold Picture House has also brought a cultural offering to the borough with a successful high quality community cinema.
Wrightington and Wigan Group of Friends for Cancer Research UK has been recognised for their great work in raising £130,000 for Cancer Research (CRUK) and as a community hub organising regular events that bring the local community together.
Cllr Gaynar Owen, Mayor of West Lancashire, said “I am delighted to hear that our local volunteer groups have been recognised for the difference they are making to our communities and our lives.
“I would like to congratulate them all on receiving the highest award for voluntary service.”
Representatives from the organisations will receive the award from Lord Shuttleworth, Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, later in the year and will attend Buckingham Palace in May 2021, along with other recipients of this year’s award.
