Man on ‘fake PC’ charge

A MAN ac­cused of car­ry­ing out a stop and search and con­fis­cat­ing cash has been charged with im­per­son­at­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer.

Po­lice launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion af­ter it was re­ported a man had ap­proached a group of peo­ple at a bus stop in New Street, Hal­sall, on June 27.

It was al­leged a man iden­ti­fied him­self as an of­fi­cer be­fore searched the group and tak­ing money off them.

Fol­low­ing ex­ten­sive en­quiries, Con­nor Webb, 21, was ar­rested in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent. Webb, of Boyer Av­enue, Maghull, has been charged with im­per­son­at­ing an of­fi­cer and theft and will go be­fore Pre­ston Mag­is­trates’ Court on Septem­ber 3.
