- BY LAUREN WISE

A SCARISBRICK man admitted attacking the Liver Building amid chaos at Pier Head following Liverpool’s title win last month.

Matthew Egglesden appeared in the dock in Liverpool Crown Court last week and pleaded guilty to a charge of arson relating to the incident, which took place on Friday, June 26

He is also faced with a charge of throwing a firework in the street relating to the same incident, however, this charge can only be dealt with in a magistrates’ court. Chris Taylor, prosecuting, explained that a victim impact statement will be sought and that the exact worth of the damage caused is not yet known.

Simon Driver, defending, explained that Egglesden’s family today appeared in court to support him.

The 19-year-old, of Turning Lane, last appeared in court on June 30, when he appeared in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court before District Judge Healey and the case was sent to the crown court.

Last week’s hearing was adjourned to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report and will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court for sentencing on August 21.

Egglesden was released on conditional bail and must not enter Liverpool city centre.
