Parking tickets after beauty spot warnings ignored

-

POLICE issued parking fines near a popular beauty spot after repeated warnings went unheard.

Drivers once again blocked the footpaths near Fairy Glen in Appley Bridge, forcing families to walk along the busy A5209 where the speed limit is 60mph.

The attraction was closed to the public during lockdown as West Lancashire Borough Council feared that social distancing was not possible and the area has been plagued by dangerous parking as restrictions have been eased.

Officers have warned motorists about blocking the lay-by near the entrance, as well as parking along the roadside but were forced to issue fixed penalty notices as visitors flocked during sunny weather last weekend.

The attraction features a secluded waterfall and ancient woodland and is popular with families and dog walkers.

In a statement, Ormskirk Police said: “Due to inconsiderate parking at Fairy Glen which is blocking the footpath forcing people with prams and wheelchairs into the national speed limit road, officers are issuing fixed penalty tickets. Please think about other people when parking.”
