Moor Hall wins ‘England’s best’

A MUCH-ACCLAIMED Lancashire restaurant has won another top industry award.

Two Michelin-starred Moor Hall in Aughton, near Ormskirk, has been named the Best Restaurant in England at the National Restaurant Awards 2022.

Chef patron Mark Birchall and his team have also won a Michelin Green Star and five AA Rosettes, with NRA judges commending the restaurant, which is inside a Grade 11-listed mansion and set in five acres of manicured gardens, for its “ambitious and brilliant cooking”.

It was given the coveted top spot in the top 100 list for the previous two years, but was pushed into second this year, with Ynyshir in Wales taking the number one title for 2022.

Parkers Arms in Newtonin Bowland on the outskirts of Clitheroe continues its successful year and has been named among the UK’s top 50 restaurant­s.

Head chef and co-owner Stosi Madi’s Ribble Valley venue placed 44th during the top industry award ceremony in London, was recently named the best gastropub in the north, finishing second in the UK overall.

Meanwhile, neighbouri­ng Northcote in Langho came in at number 96.

The prestigiou­s awards “explore the best of the UK dining scene” and the best 100 restaurant­s list is compiled “from top tapas bars to fancy fine dining rooms, barnstormi­ng bistros to great gastropubs” and are venues that “should be on your hit list”.

Simon Rogan’s three Michelin-starred L’Enclume in Cumbria also made the top 10, while the award-winning chef added another prize to his personal trophy cabinet, taking away the Chef of the Year Award during the glitzy ceremony at exclusive Hurlingham Club in Fulham.

While The cottage in the Wood in Keswick and The Old Stamp House in Ambleside finished at 81 and 87 respective­ly.
