Warning over man acting suspicious­ly in gardens

POLICE have issued a warning to residents after reports of a man seen “acting suspicious­ly” in strangers’ gardens.

Officers said the man was seen crouching down and when asked what he was doing he said he was trying to get signal on his phone. The incident happened in the Junction Lane area of Burscough at around 5.40pm on Wednesday (June 22).

By the time police arrived to speak to the man he had left the area. Householde­rs living nearby have been reminded about a number of break-ins in recent weeks and urged anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to police.

The statement sent to those in the area said: “We are asking people to be on their guard after a male was seen acting suspicious­ly in the Junction

Lane area of Burscough. The male was seen at around 17:40hrs today, Wednesday 22nd June and was crouching down in a residents’ garden.

“When questioned by a member of the public the male said he was trying to get a signal on his phone. Officers attended to speak to the male but he had left the area. There have been several break-ins recently in

Burscough and the surroundin­g areas so if you see anything suspicious or if you have any informatio­n you think could help us, please call us on 101.
