No more excuses
We will all be aware of the horrible attack on Westminster this week and I extend my sincere condolences to those involved or affected by the senseless violence.
Coincidentally, I was down in Westminster this week attending a social security meeting with DWP head, Damian Green.
The disregard this Tory Government continue to show local services is appalling.
Our local Jobcentres are in jeopardy not because of any sensible consultation or assessment, but because the DWP’s leases and contracts are up.
To make matters worse, Mr Green continued to defend the closure of crucial job centres in some of Scotland’s most deprived areas without even assessing how costs and travel distances will affect those seeking help.
Instead, the department are using Google Maps and other apps to determine distances without any consideration of how people will actually get there.
No doubt this will create a huge expansion of the excuses used to sanction people for being late for appointments and so on.
