Fresh legs was key to victory: McKinnon

-

Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon insists fresh legs won the day as his side clinched the Irn-Bru Cup on Saturday.

Substitute Thomas Mikkelson was the man on hand to thunder home the winner – and McKinnon credited the match-winner and fellow goalscorer Tony Andreu for getting his side over the line following a tense encounter with St Mirren at Fir Park.

McKinnon said:“Bringing Thomas on gave us that threat in the box but we still had to get the delivery in there.

“To be fair to Simon Murray, it was a tremendous cross and he has done that before for Thomas. It was a great header to win the game.

“I said to Tony before the match that he would hit the winner home today.

“He scored an incredible goal and I’m just surprised he never got another.

“If anybody on the park possessed the quality to score a goal like that it was Tony Andreu.

“He just has that wee bit of quality. It’s instinctive quality, a great finish. It was a great performance and the result came with it.”
