Erskine studio up for Young Scot Award

-

A community organisation is up for a top award.

Erskine Music and Media Studios is a finalist in the Enterprise category of the Young Scot Awards.

Set up by Erskine Youth Council in 2009, it is being recognised for the work it does with young people in the area.

Its studios, which are located in Bargarran Community Centre, are run by a board of directors, who are aged between 20 and 22. On offer is a weekly band rehearsal for young people, a monthly UPLOAD gig for local bands, music tuition for pupils in P7 to S3 and a recording studio for young bands.

Now in their 12th year, the awards celebrate contributions and work across health, community, the arts and diversity. From hundreds of entries, three finalists will be chosen in each of the 12 categories. The winners will be announced at a red-carpet ceremony at the Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow on 27 April.

Louise Macdonald, chief executive of Young Scot, said:“This year we received hundreds of outstanding, inspirational stories of young people like Rhys McCole and Erskine Music and Media Studios going above and beyond to improve lives in their communities.”

Bethany Wilson from the Young Scot Judging Panel, said it had received outstanding nominations this year and this is reflected in the quality of the finalists.

“The stories we’ve heard are truly inspirational and I’m excited for the incredible achievements of our finalists to be showcased at the Young Scot Awards in April,”she said.

The awards are run by our sister paper the Sunday Mail.

Brendan McGinty, editor, said: “Congratulations to all the finalists. It’s great to shine a spotlight on their incredible work.”
