Housing groups say competition was our cup of tea
Applications flood in for cuppa cash
More tea, vicar? – housing providers are celebrating their success in a Paisley company’s afternoon tea competition.
City Gate Construction invited housing associations to apply for funding in an initiative known as Afternoon Tea with CGC.
The company gave money so housing groups could invite everyone in the community along to sandwiches, cake and, of course, tea.
And the winners have been announced after what CGC says was flood of applications for the funding.
The Renfrewshire winners are Ferguslie Park Housing Association, Paisley South Housing Association, Bridgewater Housing Association in Erskine, and Glencairn Court sheltered housing in Paisley.
Each one has received £ 200 to arrange a delicious afternoon tea at a time and date of their choosing.
CGC director Ronnie McDowell said: “Our aim was to help communities – something we feel very strongly about.
“Our Afternoon Tea initiative does just that by providing money to fund events which bring people together.
“We want to be doing our bit to be helping others and tackling loneliness and isolation – often an issue with senior citizens who need companionship if they’re on their own. What better way to do that than by organising afternoon teas?”
Housing associations from across Scotland applied for the funding with 16 winners in total from as far away as Fife and Livingston. CGC said it was highly unusual for a construction firm to have come up with such a community-focused initiative adding it was “delighted” with the response.
The company describes itself as a multi-faceted business whose directors have long and practical experience, and are committed to delivering quality work that is competitively priced, eco-friendly and energy-efficient.
CGC was named in March as Renfrewshire’s Employer of the Year in the Provost’s Community Awards from Renfrewshire Council.
