Man fined £500 after row

A lout hurled vile abuse at his expartner in front of their daughter, a court has heard.

Yob Craig Jones, 27, called his former girlfriend Lauren Muir a “fat slag” and a “f***** stupid cow’ when he went to her home while the pair’s daughter looked on horrified.

Jones appeared at Paisley Sheriff to plead guilty to abusing his partner last week and the court was told about his unsavoury antics.

Fiscal depute Tom Bowman said that the pair clashed on the doorstep of Ms Muir’s home over a child’s push bike at around 7.30pm.

He told the court: “The complainer opened the door and presented the accused with a child’s bike, which she said was his niece’s.

“The accused said ‘What am I supposed to do with that?’ He then became abusive to the complainer and called her a ‘fat slag’ and a ‘f*****g stupid cow’.”

An altercation then occurred on the steps of the flat where Jones prevented his ex-partner from climbing the stairs.

When cautioned and charged by the police, he told them: “It didn’t happen.”

His defence agent Stephen Fox told the court that his client had enrolled in anger management classes in a bid to tackle some of his underlying issues.

“He accepts that he should never have said what he said in front of his daughter.”

Jones admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm, at a common close in Kings Road, in Elderslie, on November 6 last year.

Presiding Sheri f f David Pender told Jones, of Glencairn Gardens, Glasgow, that had he not enrolled in the anger management course, he could have been facing jail.

Instead he fined him £500 to be paid within 28 days.
