A yob kicked off after his mum called the police on him has been jailed.

Lout Paul Cowan, 27, told police officers that he would “do them in” after they arrived to lift him following a family bust-up.

After a falling out with his mother, the police were called, but Cowan was not for going quietly.

He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court last week and admitted his loutish behaviour.

Depute fiscal Tom Bowman told the court that Cowan acted aggressively and tried to pull away from them at Newburgh, Erskine.

He said: “At 9.20pm police in mobile uniform patrol attended the locus in relation to another matter where they had cause to speak to Mr Cowan. He began acting aggressively towards the police witnesses and threatened to assault them.

“He started making his way towards the police witnesses in an aggressive manner and told them, ‘I’m going to do someone in’”.

The officers had heard enough from the yob, who has a long record of public disorder offences, and lifted him.

The prosecutor continued: “On being arrested, he made repeated attempts to pull away from the officers.

“He then said, ‘I didn’t say I was going to kill you, I said I was going to kill him.’”

His defence agent told the court that his client’s relationship with his partner and mother had broken down at the time of the incident and he was facing significant personal problems.

He said: “The police actually found him sitting outside on the step during this incident.

“He faces significant health problems including a serious heart condition which would prevent him form carrying out community service.”

Cowan admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner and uttering threats and also to a charge of resisting arrest on February 26 this year.

Sheriff David Pender told Cowan that he had little choice but to jail him over the incident.

He said: “The difficulty I have is your record.

“It is difficult for me to deal with this matter in any other way other than to imposing a period of custody.”

He jailed Cowan, of no fixed abode, for four months over his abuse of the cops and five months for resisting arrest.

The sentences will run alongside each other, meaning Cowan will spend five months behind bars, backdated to February 27.
