Buckfast firm gives hospice £25,000
Fundraisers raise a glass to tonic wine distributors
Bosses at one of Paisley’s best loved charities have raised a glass to the distributors of notorious tonic wine Buckfast after they made a generous donation.
Accord Hospice has been gifted £25,000 from J Chandler & Co which distributes the tonic wine.
Over the last four years, the company has given an incredible £95,000 to the hospice to help with its work giving palliative and end- of- life care to people across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.
Fundraising manager Ken Mathie said: “We are so grateful to J Chandler for once again supporting our work with the people of Renfrewshire.
“We have to raise just over £5,000 a day to run the hospice and our services, so this money will keep us going for a working week.”
J Chandler & Co distributes Buckfast tonic wine and also gives away a lot of money to charity in Scotland.
Ken said: “I understand they pick four charities to give money to and we’re very fortunate that we’re one of them and have been a recipient over the last four years, “It’s very kind of them.” Stewart Wilson, sales manager for J Chandler & Co, said: “We’re pleased to be in a position to be able to support Accord Hospice. It’s a fantastic organisation which needs a lot of funding on a daily basis.
“We select charities from across the UK to support. Ken had spoken to us a while ago about the hospice’s need for funding and we decided to support it.”
Accord has helped tens of thousands of terminally-ill people and their loved ones since it opened in 1982. It needs to raise nearly £1.8million every year just to meet running costs.
Ken said the money would go into the hospice’s general fund.
In January, J Chandler & Co revealed a pre-tax profits rise of more than £1million to £7.7million according to accounts filed at Companies House.
The accounts also revealed the firm donated more than £100,000 to charity last year.
