A beauty queen was close to hanging up her sash and tiara – but winning a top pageant has opened up a world of new opportunities.

Carra Henderson, 25, was named Miss Belle Scotland 2017 and is now looking to build on her fantastic success.

The Johnstone care home support worker, says she was on the verge of leaving the world of beauty pageants before her major win. She said: “I was so happy to win it. “I thought that this was maybe my last chance to do well at, or win, a major pageant.

“I’m 25 now so I was thinking about taking a step back from it all.

“But winning the Miss Belle Scotland pageant this year has opened up so many doors for me.”

Carra, who is regularly an extra on BBC soap River City and does a lot of modelling work, also scooped a number of side awards, including Miss Charity, Miss Publicity, Best Evening Wear, Best Personality and Best Hair.

She has been taking part in beauty pageants since 2014 and this is her biggest success to date.

She said: “I was shocked to walk away with this title and the side awards. I’m so overwhelmed and excited as it will allow me to go forward to the compete for the UK title.

“I get an all-expenses-paid trip to Spain in 2019 because I won, which is amazing.”

She now expects to be very busy taking part in local and national events.

She added: “I’m going to be making lots of appearances and doing charity work. I am now able to judge pageants as well so that is exciting too.

“I would like to thank my partner Brendan Henderson and Jackie Kitchen, the competition director, and everyone else who has supported me.”

And the people that Carra helps look after in her day job have been asking all about her recent success.

“They have all been congratulating me and asking to see pictures of the event,” she said.

“They were all really happy for me.”
