Fly-tipping must stop
Why should anyone, least of all Renfrewshire Council, be surprised at the fly-tipping that has been going on up on the Gleniffer Braes in recent months? (Express, March 30)
This council closed the nearest recycling centre, in Foxbar, two years ago and refused to listen to the pleas of local people to keep it open.
They then also all but closed all the other recycling centres.
Thankfully, after a concerted campaign by residents, they had to reopen these recycling centres again.
The Labour administration, under Councillor Mark McMillan and environmental supremo Councillor Eddie Devine, wasted £350,000 of Council Tax money on this fiasco. I condemn all fly-tipping. It’s disgraceful that people care so little about their neighbours that they will do this.
But the present council administration has to answer for their reckless behaviour in allowing the idea of fly-tipping to grow.
And in the meantime, the good people of Foxbar have to take all their recycling down into Paisley as there is nowhere else for it to go.

I welcome this as, unfortunately, a few do abuse the parking opportunities.
It will be welcomed by those who have to travel from further afield – from the Vale of Leven, Inverclyde and beyond.
The board has said this will be free and I hope this continues to be the case.
My concerns are for families of resident patients, especially those who stay with their children.
Will they have to drive around at the end of the four-hour slot to find another space?
What about our precious NHS staff, many of whom are underpaid? Will they have access to parking for their shifts which, for nurses, can be up to 12 hours?
It is sad that such measures have to be taken, but I hope they improve matters for patients and their families.
