Foodbank collection is back at Paisley 2021 for Dumbarton tie
St Mirren supporters are being urged to get into the giving spirit ahead of tomorrow’s crunch clash with Dumbarton at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.
Fingers are, of course, crossed for a positive result for the Buddies — but the St Mirren Fans Council are also hoping that supporters will be able to dig deep and lend a helping hand by donating to their collection for Renfrewshire Foodbank.
Fans of both sides are being urged to dig deep and donate whatever they can to help the most vulnerable.
The blue bins will be out in force at the turnstiles once again, where punters are asked to simply drop off their donations.
This weekend’s collection follows in the footsteps of several successful collections, with the last in the run up to Christmas before clash with Ayr.
It was announced that St Mirren fans were in a league of their own after they handed over 520.69kg of produce. That amount of food helped to provide 1,249 meals to people in crisis in Renfrewshire.
Fans Council treasurer John Allison hopes that the supporters will, once again, get behind the drive for the fantastic cause.
He told Express Sport : “Due to the generous nature of the St Mirren supporters, we have decided to, once again, hold another foodbank collection.
“The fans gave enormous backing to the foodbank when we held one for the game with Ayr in December and the feedback that we received from Elizabeth at Renfrewshire Foodbank was fantastic. They were grateful for everything we donated.
“The club have again backed us and have been more than accommodating when it has come to setting up the collection. With it being Easter, we thought it was another great opportunity for us to invite donations.
“The generosity of the support will be much appreciated and anything anyone can donate will be warmly received.”
Renfrewshire Foodbank are particularly on the hunt for the following — tinned potatoes, tinned tomatoes, jam, tinned custard/rice, UHT milk, tinned fruit, 1L cartons of juice, small jars of coffee, soap, toothpaste, deodorant and shaving gel/foam.
In general, donations should be of non-perishable food items.
