Star Saint Mallan’s creeping up on Morgan

- St Mirren

It’s down to a solitary point in the Express Sport Star Saint award as Stevie Mallan claws back at teammate Lewis Morgan.

Mallan was in sublime form for the Buddies against Ayr United at the weekend as he rattled home the opening goal before setting up the second in an action-packed encounter with The Honest Men.

It pulls the midfielder closer to top spot following his seventh man of the match performance of the season.

Lewis Morgan’s injury may see him ruled out for the remainder of the season, leaving the door open for Mallan to race in to top spot in the remaining weeks of the campaign.

Mallan has been in fantastic form since the turn of the year.

His failure to move in the January transfer window had seen many worry it would affect his mindset heading into the season finale.

But, instead, it has spurred him on over the course of the last four months, with his form improving significantly since the arrival of Stephen McGinn.

Honourable mentions, as ever, go to Kyle Magennis on the right flank.

The youngster took his goal well, having rounded the keeper and put in a fantastic shift.

Stelios Demetriou also impressed, having slotted back in to the first team due to Gary Irvine’s suspension.

Leaderboard: Lewis Morgan (8), Stevie Mallan (7), Gary MacKenzie (5), Kyle McAllister (5), Jack Baird (3), Stephen McGinn (3), Kyle Magennis (2), Billy O’Brien (1), Harry Davis (1), Rory Loy (1), David Clarkson (1), Scott Gallacher (1), Jason Naismith (1), Ryan Hardie (1), Gary Irvine (1), John Sutton (1), Jamie Langfield (1).
