Take these handcuffs off...or I’ll do you in

Lout’s threat to police after booze session ended in 999 call to house

- Express Reporter

13.04.2017 Police got a mouthful when they went to investigate the report of a domestic disturbance at a house in Paisley.

On arrival at the property in George Street, they warned Anthony Sweeney that they would have to force entry if he didn’t open the door and let him in.

Defiantly, he told them: “If you come through the door, I’ll f*****g come through you.”

Paisley Sheriff Court heard this week how the officers had only been responding to a 999 call that came in at 2am on March 23.

When they were eventually given access, they found a woman inside with a slight injury to her eye, but Sweeney remained uncooperative and began to issue more threats, and was arrested.

He warned: “Take these ‘cuffs off or I’ll do you in,” then said he would kick them up and down the street and “kill them.”

When Sweeney appeared in the dock he pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm to others by acting aggressively, shouting, swearing and making threats of violence.

Defence agent Amy Spencer said that her client had been in and out of prison so much that he had been “in effect serving a life sentence by instalments.”

His life had been blighted by addiction and homelessness and on the night referred to he had been drinking to excess.

“When police arrived at the door, he felt he had done nothing wrong and acted accordingly,” she said.

“He now admits, however, that his behaviour was appalling.”

The lawyer said that as a result of his conduct, he had lost his girlfriend who had informed him the relationship was over.

After hearing that the accused had also breached bail conditions by committing the latest offence, he was jailed for a total of four months, backdated to the time he was held on remand after his arrest.
