We’ll bring tourism cash to Renfrewshire, vow Nats
SNP politicians have pledged to make the most of Renfrewshire’s tourism potential.
Paisely South East candidate Janette Swanson and Councillor Marie McGurk have said they will work to develop the area if the SNP is elected at May’s council vote.
In their local manifesto, the SNP has vowed to develop a dynamic tourism strategy that makes the most of Renfrewshire’s heritage sites, industrial history and many pioneering individuals who put the location on the map.
Janette said heritage tourism has the ability to make a significant contribution to the economy and that her party would make the most of that potential.
She claimed:“Renfrewshire has a great deal to offer tourists.
“Links such as Sir William Wallace, Paisley Abbey, the radical martyrs of 1820 and many local poets are only a few of the many historical attractions.
“It’s also home to one of the busiest airports in Britain, and with new routes being announced every week, we are in a prime location to attract more tourists from across Europe and the world.
“An SNP administration will work with organisations, local groups and businesses to make the most of Renfrewshire’s tourism potential, as well as using the full powers available to the council to ensure absent and neglectful owners carry out work required to maintain property, particularly in conservation areas.”
Councillor McGurk said visitor numbers coming to Scotland have been steadily growing in recent years, creating revenue and employment in an expanding tourist sector.
She urged:“I want Paisley and Renfrewshire to be on list of places to visit in the West of Scotland.
“I want the full powers of the council available to ensure that owners carry out essential work on their properties – especially in our conservation areas.
“Tourism in Paisley needs a coordinated approach as well as the drive and imagination to make it a success. Only an SNP administration has the forward thinking to do that.”
