A woman’s place is... on the tee

It’s Women’s Golf Day on June 6

- Craig Ritchie

Paisley and Renfrewshire golf clubs are being encouraged to take part in a new initiative called, Women’s Golf Day.

The event, which will take place across the globe on Tuesday, June 6, has been set up in a bid to bring more women and girls into the sport.

Women’s Golf Day was launched in 2016, and spanned over 485 locations and introduced thousands of new golfers to the sport.

This year, there are over 500 events taking place in 36 countries, and organisers are hoping to get as many Scottish venues involved as possible.

Organisers have partnered with bodies such as the World Golf Foundation, International Golf Federation, LPGA, LET, PGA, PGA Tour and European Tour to attract support.

WGD founder Elisa Gaudet said: “In 2016, we were amazed by the incredible response the movement generated around the world in our very first year. What began as a simple idea with our founder has turned into a global movement that is growing every day – Women’s Golf Day, on June 6.

“Women’s Golf Day is a four-hour event where women and girls can experience golf for the first time, and where current and former golfers can play and engage with others interested in golf. The event is about inclusiveness, above all.”

UK ambassador for WGD, Emma Ballard, added: “I volunteered to help out with the day because I truly believe that women and girls participation is at a turning point, so it’s a great time to highlight golf and use the power of social media to really create an international buzz around the day.

“To achieve this, we are on a mission to recruit as many venues as possible over the coming weeks.”

To register as a 2017 host venue – open to public/private courses, practice ranges, and retailers – or to get more information, visit www.womensgolfday.com or email emma@medi8ltd.co.uk
