Drivers warned not to forget new airport drop-off charge

-

Holidaymakers and business travellers should remember a £2 drop-off charge has kicked in at Glasgow Airport.

Anyone dropping friends and family off to catch a flight will now have to pay this fee.

The airport’s new pick-up and drop-off facility, directly opposite the main terminal building ,officially opened yesterday.

The changes are part of a bigger project of works that is aimed at cutting congestion and boosting the flow of traffic on roads in the airport grounds.

A pick-up fee has been in place since 2010 and the new drop-off fee of £2 entitles you to park for a stay of up to 10 minutes.

The system is ticketless and charges will be calculated as you drive out using number plate recognition.

Drivers will be able to pay using coins from 10p to the new £1; chip and pin; contactless payment; Apple Pay and by swiping bank and credit cards.

Change machines will also be located in the facility. If, for any reason, you think you will need longer than 10 minutes you must use the short stay car park.

There will be no alterations in arrangements for blue badge holders, who are entitled to up to 30 minutes of free parking in the short stay car park. The airport will continue to offer a free pick-up and drop-off area located in the long stay car park.

Customers can park for free for up to 30 minutes and a 24-hour shuttle bus, which takes approximately five minutes and operates every 10 minutes, will take customers directly to and from the main terminal building.
