You can give our charities a windfall

Two Renfrewshire good causes are hoping to rake in bags of cash through a supermarket charity drive.

St Vincent’s Hospice in Howwood and the Back to School Bank Paisley would love to be quids in – and they need your help.

The Tesco Bags of Help supermarket initiative sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge – being awarded to community projects.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to their nearest store to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Customers can cast their vote using a token given to them at the checkout in store each time they shop.

Voting is open in stores throughout May and June.

Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £28.5million to more than 4,000 projects up and down the UK and customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop.

Back to School Bank Paisley aims to help disadvantaged youngsters in our neighbourhoods get a better start in life.

It was set up by Lochfield Primary teacher Lynne Gilday with support from other mums, school staff and friends to make things easier for families struggling to make ends meet.

The bank provides children with brand new basics they need, such as a uniform and even stationery to help them avoid the stigma of discrimination.

Now the group is also bidding to land a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund projects that bring benefits to communities.
