Foam-tastic fun in memory of Moira

Pals take on Bubble Rush to raise hospice cash

- Colette Crampsey

Renfrewshire folks waded through a sea of frothing foamy fun at last week’s charity Bubble Rush.

Dozens raced through massive of coloured soapy suds on Sunday, April 30, going the extra mile to raise money for hospices across the country.

Among those taking part in the 5k dash at Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park was Eilidh Pollock, 32 from Paisley.

She and seven of her friends rose to the bubble challenge, raising money for Accord Hospice, which cared for her best friend Moira Ferguson before she passed away to cancer.

Eilidh raised well over £600 for the hospice — her way of saying thank you for the “impeccable care” her friend received.

“It was a great day. There were people there of all ages raising money for the amazing hospices in Scotland, including Accord, Brick by Brick Appeal and The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.

“Everyone there had their own story — there was a young boy running for his grandad who passed away in hospice care and even people who were friends of nurses that work there.

“We had a great laugh and the event just reminds you there are a lot of good people in this world.”

Around 4,500 hospice supporters of all ages, from tiny tots to grannies and grandpas, made their way around the course, dressed in tutus, brightly coloured wigs and giant sunglasses and declared it a bubble-tastic success.

Organised by the Glasgowbased Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, the course around the park blasted entrants with cannons of coloured foam and bubbles along the route.

The event may be over, but Eilidh said she’s not done fundraising.

She added: “We are still washing the blue dye out of our clothes from the bubbles, but myself and the girls have already signed up for the Rainbow Ramble at Ferguslie Park, in August.

“You have to dress in white and you get coloured powder thrown at you — so it will be time to get messy again.

“It’s worth it when it’s in aid of a good cause and we won’t stop supporting Accord Hospice.”
