Ladies strike £720 winner for charity
Lunch serves up a superb donation
The ladies at Paisley Golf Club have swung into action to raise charity cash.
They swapped skip caps for hard hats to present a cheque for £720 to Royal Blind at the charity’s new campus, which will open in Paisley in October.
This project brings Royal Blind and its sister charity Scottish War Blinded together for the first time on one site in Hawkhead Road.
Jenny’s Well is a nursing home for visually impaired older people and The Hawkhead Centre is a rehabilitation and activity hub for veterans with sight loss.
Paisley Golf Club Ladies’ captain Pamela Smith said: “Paisley Ladies raised this donation at our Christmas Ladies’ Lunch.
“The charity has been waiting for an opportune time to invite us onto the site to make our presentation.
“We are honoured to be some of the first local guests to visit this impressive development and look forward to continuing to support the charity.
“Royal Blind is our nominated charity for 2017.
“Throughout the season, we will hold other fundraising activities for it and we have invited representatives to be part of our Ladies’ Open Day on Thursday, June 29.
“They can promote their charity there and potentially recruit volunteers for their activities in Jenny’s Well care home and in the Scottish War Blinded centre.”
Davina Shiell, of Royal Blind and Scottish War Blinded, said the ladies’ generosity is greatly appreciated.
“As this is Royal Blind’s first ever service outwith Edinburgh, we are extremely grateful to Paisley Ladies for their generous gesture and welcome to the town.
“We are delighted that they have chosen us as their charity of the year and look forward to a growing relationship with Paisley Golf Club throughout the 12 months.”
