A Paisley business is going green.

Construction firm CGC has been awarded a four-star accreditation for its efforts in making its fleet of vans as free from pollution as possible.

The endorsement has come from the Eco Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme, which has the backing of Renfrewshire Council.

This is the second-highest level of recognition that CGC could have received, with five stars being the top rating.

The aim of the scheme is to promote “efficient and cleaner operations in Renfrewshire”.

MacDowall Street-based CGC said recognises it has to do its bit to keep the air as clean as possible while running its fleet of 50 vans.

The company recently bought 15 more vans which, it says are more fuel efficient and pollute less than older models.

Angie McGuire, Transport Manager at CGC, said: “We all have a responsibility to make the environment as clean as possible and reducing pollution is a key way of doing this.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this four star rating and we will endeavour to do even more to ensure our fleet of vehicles is operated as efficiently as possible.”

Already in place at CGC is a system that tracks vehicles so that “engine idling”, a notorious pollution cause, is reduced as much as possible.

All CGC vehicles have a “trip computer” so that drivers can be encouraged how to drive in the most fuel efficient manner.

CGC Managing Director Leo Reilly added: “As a large company we recognise the importance of operating as environmentallyfriendly as possible.

“We are always looking at ways we can reduce our carbon footprint.

“Our participation in the Eco Stars Fleet Recognition system shows we take this matter very seriously indeed.”
