Cops nab man with heroin

-

A notorious thug tried to ditch a bag of heroin under the noses of cops, a court heard.

Ryan Luby, 31, was spotted acting suspiciously in the town’s Rowan Street when officers suspected he was carrying drugs.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Luby, who has serious convictions for violence, threw away the plastic bag of white powder in an attempt to avoid detection.

Fiscal depute Frank Clarke told the court: “Police officers approached the accused and noticed he had thrown a cellophane bag away from himself.

“He was stopped and searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, however, no items were found. He was advised that the substance recovered would be tested, which it was and it was found to contain 0.3 grams of heroin.”

The former jailbird, of Kilnside Road, Seedhill, who has served prison stretches for serious assault and possession of firearms, pleaded guilty to charges of drugs possession last December 13.

Defence agent Charlie McCusker said: “He has no analogous convictions but was released from prison in 2014 and has been out of trouble for three years.

“He has no drugs issues involving heroin or cocaine, has been keeping out of trouble, and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.”

Sheriff Craig Harris told the accused: “You have a record for other kinds of offences, but you have one drugs matter on your record.”

He fined Luby £ 240, reduced from £350, because of his early plea of guilty.
