Chrissie marks 100th birthday with a twirl
Four generations wish great-gran many happy returns
A great-gran spent her centenary by jigging to her favourite songs.
Chrissie Barclay was presented with a telegram from the Queen by the Deputy Lieutenant of Renfrewshire before hitting the dancefloor.
She marked the milestone surrounded by family and pals and even had time for a slice of cake between tunes.
Grandson Chris, 37, told how four generations gathered at Mosswood Care Home to celebrate the special day. He said: “It’s been fantastic. “The staff have laid on entertainment and there’s been food and plenty of laughs.
“Gran was presented with her telegram, but all she could say to the Deputy Lieutenant was, ‘that’s lovely, but who are you exactly?’.
“She doesn’t take any prisoners, even at her age and she always says exactly what’s on her mind.
“We had a great time up dancing to Wild Mountain Thyme.”
The family matriarch was joined by her two sons, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She moved to Renfrewshire with her family as a young woman when her joiner dad took up work in the shipyards.
Chrissie raised her boys Kenneth, 73, and Alan, 70, with husband Kenneth until his death in 2005, aged 92.
She moved to the Linwood centre, where she is visited by loved ones – including granddaughters Kirsty, 29, and Catriona, 28, who travelled from Belgium especially for the occasion.
Chris added: “It’s been a great occasion and it was very special to get four generations of the family together.
“We go from gran, right down to my youngest daughter Melissa, who has just turned two.
“My uncle Alan and his girls live in Europe now and to have everybody together has been very special.”
Deputy Lieutenant of Renfrewshire Brigadier Alistair Macmillan joined the bash with staff and pals from the care home.
