Sad to see Zajkowski go

-

Braehead Clan have confirmed that first choice netminder Michal Zajkowski will not be returning to the club for next season.

Zajkowski joined the Clan last summer as part of a raft of signings made by former head coach Ryan Finnerty in the close season.

The Swede became a key member of the side following his arrival from Norwegian outfit Lillehamer, posting a save percentage of 89.5 per cent during 40 games in the Elite League. However, the netminder has decided to return back to his hometown to join Örnsköldsvik HF for the next two seasons.

The club’s hockey and operations directer Gareth Chalmers admits he is disappointed to see the Zajkowski depart Braehead but wished him all the very best upon his return to Scandanavia.

Chalmers said:“I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Michal and his family all the very best for the future.

“Michal is a superb guy – one of the nicest guys you’ll come across in hockey. We’re happy for him that he has been able to secure a contract with his hometown club for the next two seasons.”

Meanwhile, Chalmers confirmed that the search to appoint a new head coach for the side remain ongoing.

And with a squad to build, he also revealed that there are set to be a number of new faces joining the Clan in the coming days and weeks.

Chalmers added:“We’ve had almost 50 applications for the coaching role, a lot of high calibre CVs from Europe, North America and here in the UK.

“We’re spending time doing our homework on each guy to ensure we’re looking at the right candidates for the Braehead Clan.

“Negotiations with a number of players are close to being finalised and we’ll be in a position very soon to start confirming the exciting new roster for 2017/18.”
