Please donate food

-

An urgent appeal has gone out from Renfrewshire Foodbank for more donations.

The organisation says that it could run out of some items by the end of next week if more supplies are not handed in.

The lack of items is being put down to the huge increase in the number of people using the Paisley facility.

In the year to March, the number of people using the foodbank rose by a massive 1,000 to 7,200.

Foodbank manager Elizabeth Alexander said: “It’s not because people aren’t still donating food that we need more, it’s because there’s been a massive increase in people needing parcels.”

Urgently required today are UHT milk, tinned potatoes, litre cartons of juice – not fresh – along with tinned fruit, tinned custard, rice pudding, small packets of tea, coffee, and jam Pasta and beans are not presently required.

The foodbank gives people a three-day supply of food, with the aim of supplying them with items that will allow them to have a balanced diet.

If people use the Renfrewshire Foodbank they will also be given advice on how to improve their situations.

Donations can be made at Renfrewshire Foodbank at Unit 12, 80 Abercorn Street, Paisley, which is open on Mondays and Fridays from 10am to noon, and on Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm.

There are also drop boxes in Tesco Linwood, Tesco Paisley, Morrison’s Johnstone and the Co-ops in Houston, Kilbarchan, Bridge of Weir and Bishopton.

People can also make an arrangement with the foobank to make a donation by calling Mrs Alexander on 07581 480155.
