Teams go head-to-head in battle to top the table

Pickwicks claim the lead spot for now

The post- split action is well underway in the Paisley and District Darts League with top and bottom spots still up for grabs.

In the First Division this week there were top- of- the- table clashes and relegation battles played out as the teams went head to head.

With the current leaders Hagg Bar A not playing, all eyes were on thirdplaced Pickwicks as they faced secondplaced St Peter’s.

The tie ended 6- 3 to the visitors, meaning that they have regained their place at the top of the table.

Railway Inn took full advantage of the St Peter’s win as they closed the gap on Pickwicks by beating visitors Burgh Bar 6-3.

The win now means that Pickwicks only have a two-leg advantage over the Howwood team.

Court Bar played host to Arthurlie Inns and made their advantage count as they too ran out 6-3 winners to put a four-point gap between the teams.

In a battle of the bottom teams, with both teams fighting to avoid relegation, it was home team Keystone A that held their nerve to record a 5-4 win over Hagg Bar C with the game going all the way to the last doubles match before being decided.

In the Second Division, the battle for top spot is really hotting up with Pockets Red and Cafuffals only separated by leg difference prior to this weeks’ games.

Pockets played host to The Kelburn and quickly established a lead, winning the first four singles games to put them just one leg away from victory before The Kelburn hit their stride winning their first match to make it 4-1.

The Pockets team, however wouldn’t be denied their win and sealed the two points in the next game.

The final result ended up 6-3 to the home team and with that they remain in top place.

Cafuffals travelled to Johnstone to take on Keystone B and struggled to find their rhythm as the home team raced to a 2-0 lead before Cafuffals got their first win. Once they started winning the matches, it was all one-way traffic and they too recorded a 6-3 win to keep the pressure on the Pockets team.

Gleniffer put all thoughts of their recent defeats to the top two behind them as they hosted bottom team Pockets Black and came away with a 9-0 whitewash, their second of the season, to stay in touch with the promotion places.

Inkerman moved up the table into fourth place as they travelled to Flying Horse B and came away with a 6-3 win.

That result and The Kelburn’s defeat moves The Kelburn down into fifth, and with the teams meeting next week that game could be decisive.

In the last of the games in the division, Hazel Arms keep in touch with The Kelburn as they now share the same points courtesy of their 5-4 win over Tartan Rose.

There were a total of eight scores of 180 recorded in the games this week, with more than half of them coming from the Pickwicks v St. Peters game including St Peter’s’ Andy Callary hitting two. The quickest game of the week also came from that match with Pickwicks’ Robert Morrison hitting an 11 dart leg to accompany others of 13 and 18, giving a very impressive average of over 107 per throw.

The highest finish of the week was 104 and was hit by Keystone A player Ian Waterston.
