Prize guys honoured at awards

-

There were a number of big winners as St Mirren honoured their season with their annual awards night at The Normandy hotel, Renfrew.

The night doubled up as the 30th anniversary dinner in recognition of the club’s Scottish Cup triumph of 1987. Ten members of the side were in attendance, alongside winning manager Alex Smith.

Of the current crop of players, Gary MacKenzie took home the Fans’ Council player of the year award. And the defender made it a double by bagging the Black and White Magazine’s top gong as well.

But it was winger Lewis Morgan, having enjoyed a barnstorming season on the left flank, who received the club’s official player of the year award.

Midfielder Kyle Magennis went one better when he took home a trio of prizes, as he received the Fans’ Council young player of the year award, the club’s official young player of the year award, as well as goal of the season for his strike against Queen of the South at the start of December.

With voting closed prior to Stevie Mallan’s wonderstrike against Raith a fortnight ago, he too received a prize for his strike.

Fans were treated to tales from Bill Leckie and former referee John Rowbotham over the course of an enjoyable night, while manager Jack Ross took to the stage to pay tribute to his players.
