Healthy life charity needs you Paisley group seeks volunteers to help change people’s lives
A Paisley organisation that helps people make the most both of themselves and the places where they live is looking for volunteers.
The drive from Active Communities comes in the lead up to National Volunteers Week, which kicks off at the beginning of June.
The organisation’s website said: “We value the contribution our volunteers make to Active Communities and aim to provide opportunities for volunteers’ personal development... achieve qualifications where appropriate and be part of a warm and friendly community.”
People can become Community Health Champions. According to Active Communities, these are people who bring their ability to relate to people and their own life experience to transform health and well-being in their communities.
They can empower and motivate people to get involved in healthy social activities, create groups to meet local needs and “signpost” people to relevant support and services. Community Health Champions help others to enjoy healthier lives by raising awareness of health and healthy choices, sharing health messages, removing barriers and creating supportive networks and environments.
Active Communities also says it organises a range of events each year where it relies on local volunteers to help.
Duties include setting up equipment, stewarding, late entries, administration, and helping with activities. Volunteers also help with classes. This can range from helping to meet and greet new members and helping with the register to assisting leaders.
If you have business, financial or marketing experience you could join Active Communities’ Board of Directors. Training is given to all volunteers. Active Communities was established as a result of the success of Jogging Buddies. This was set up in 2003 to promote walking and jogging in the Paisley area.
