Lewis has his eye on promotion as he picks up player of the year award

- Craig Ritchie

Lewis Morgan couldn’t hide his delight as he collected St Mirren’s official player of the year award at the weekend.

But the winger insists he has no time to revel in his success, as the club already look ahead to next season.

Morgan collected the night’s top gong, while teammates Kyle Magennis, Gary MacKenzie and Stevie Mallan also picked up prizes.

And with plans already afoot for the next campaign, the 20-year-old has an eye on the upcoming season.

He said: “Promotion to the Premiership has to be our only aim.

“We can’t go on the back foot now, we need to keep the momentum going. When we come in at pre-season there is going to be an optimism about it. The place is always in high spirits anyway.

“I feel the experience you can gain from the position that we are in is going to stand me in good stead. I think I have got experience beyond my years now,

“This season has maybe aged me a bit because of the pressure that we have had, but it’s been brilliant and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

And the Saints starlet admits that the prize could have gone to any of his teammates following a thrilling end to the season.

He added: “Besides the great achievement as a group, it is always great to get some individual recognition.

“I’m delighted because the award could have gone to anyone. But for me, it is good to get that in my first full year playing first team senior football week in week out.

“But I think anyone would have deserved, it so it was great to see a variety of people winning the awards.”
