Heated row ended in violent attack

A jealous yob slapped his girlfriend after discovering she had been out partying with her ex as he babysat her toddler.

Game shop manager Scott Boyd lashed out at Abbey Allen when she returned home late from a night out with her former partner.

The 29- year- old pleaded guilty to assaulting Ms Allen at her flat in Gallowhill Road, Paisley, when he appeared at the town’s sheriff court this week.

Fiscal depute Masooma Jaffri told the court that Boyd was left looking after Ms Allen’s young son when she left at 10.30pm for an evening out.

She said: “She left her three yearold son in the care of Mr Boyd while she went on a night out with friends.

“She advised that she would return at 2am, however she arrived back at 5am and Mr Boyd was not happy about this.

The court heard that when Ms Allen tried to explain why she was late, Boyd lost the plot.

The prosecutor continued: “The accused walked towards her and slapped her on the left hand side of her face, causing her to fall onto the couch.”

At this point, a terrified Ms Allen attempted to alert the police, but was stopped by Boyd, who grabbed the phone off her, telling the call handler, ‘she is just drunk’.

On realising what he had done, Boyd began apologising for his actions, but was asked to leave.

When cops caught up with him later, he told them: “I’ve admitted what I’ve done. It was in self defence. It was only once and it stopped.”

Boyd’s defence agent James Arrol told the court that the incident on January 29 spiralled out of control when it became clear Ms Allen had been out with her former partner.

Mr Arrol said: “He stepped in at the last minute to help look after her son.

“Over the course of the evening, he learned that she was in the company of her ex-boyfriend.

“They had arguments on the phone throughout the evening.

“He was sitting in the house brewing, unsure if she was with her ex-boyfriend and was so angry that he then slapped her.

“You could say he was provoked by blind jealousy.”

Sheriff Susan Sinclair warned him about his behaviour.

She said: “You shouldn’t raise your hands to anyone, but what has happened has happened, but I think you know that.”

She fined Boyd, of Port Glasgow, £150.
