Westminster hopeful blasts Tories
An SNP General Election candidate says he will keep fighting against“cruel and callous cuts”to disability benefits.
Gavin Newlands, who is the sitting candidate for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, claims he has helped numerous people who have been affected by changes to their disability benefits.
These included the transfer from Disability Living Allowance to the new Personal Independence Payment.
And he says he has spoken out in Parliament on several occasions and raised the issue of people losing their Motability cars with the Prime Minister.
He said:“Throughout this election campaign, the Tories would seem to be offering alternative facts from an alternate history on their record in government to deflect attention away from the raft of severe cuts they have inflicted on some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
“I have seen first-hand the devastating impact these cuts have had on people’s lives through my work in the constituency.”
He added:“The Tory UK Government’s approach to disability support is failing those who need our help the most.
“We must create and protect a system which ensures that disabled people receive the proper and adequate provision they need to live as independently as possible.”
