Bubbles, books and beaming smiles, what more could a baby ask for?
Giggles and bubbles were in full evidence as Paisley Central Library staged its biggest ever Bookbug event.
The High Street library took part in the Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug Gigglethon which started at 9.30am and finished at 4.30pm on Monday.
And it welcomed 200 families through the doors to enjoy non-stop entertaining Bookbug sessions and receive some free gifts.
Andrew Givan, children and families development co-ordinator, said: “It was really good. We saw some new faces, people who had never been along to a Bookbug session before.
“We knew it would be busy in the morning because that’s when we have our normal Bookbug session. However, we were worried it would be a washout in the afternoon but it was non-stop all day.
“We had a big team there and each did a half hour session which ended on a book then someone else would step in and do the next session.
“It was called the Bookbug Big Giggle so they picked out funny books and sang songs and rhymes.”
Bookbug sessions are free story, song and rhyme groups which take place in libraries across Renfrewshire.
This was the seventh annual Bookbug Week, a Scottish Book Trust’s Early Years Programme, which is funded by the Scottish Government.
The programme encourages mums, dads and carers to sing and share stories with their children from birth.
It also provides every child in Scotland with four free bags of books, gifting 720,000 books every year.
More than 240,000 children in Scotland benefited last year, with even more set to receive free books in 2017.
Andrew said Monday’s event was the biggest ever held in Renfrewshire.
“This is the biggest Bookbug session we have ever done,” he said. “We had more people along than we expected, so it was great.”
