Scissors yob warned police that he was ‘going to slash dafties’

Cops called to house after neighbours raised alarm

A violent yob armed with two pairs of scissors was arrested after causing mayhem in Paisley, a court was told.

Christopher Reid, 31, was found staggering up Skye Crescent in the town’s Glenburn district, swigging from a vodka bottle and with green-handled scissors sticking out of his back pocket.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard that Reid of Grampian Avenue, also Glenburn, had earlier raised a rumpus when he smashed his own windows then reported the matter to police on September 10, 2016.

Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said: “Numerous calls had been made to report a disturbance at Grampian Avenue. Police attended and spoke to the accused at his home address.

“The accused told officers he had smashed his own windows and did not wish to make any complaints.

“Officers stood down from the incident, but they did not leave the vicinity, due to the large number of reports of disturbances.

“Around 30 minutes later, a mobile patrol observed the accused staggering in front of their vehicle. He appeared heavily intoxicated and was holding a bottle of vodka.

“On noticing the police, he turned his back and began walking towards Skye Crescent, where the police pulled alongside and began speaking to him.”

The court heard Reid, who was carrying two pairs of scissors, told cops: “I am going roon’ there to slash the dafties that smashed my windaes.”

Reid appeared at court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to charges of being in possession, with reasonable excuse or lawful authority, an offensive weapon, namely two pairs of scissors.

His defence agent Jonathan Manson said: “He has two previous convictions which may clearly cause concern – an assault and a domestic matter.

“Your lordship could send him to custody, but I would ask he is released on bail while reports are prepared before sentencing.”

Sheriff David Pender told the accused: “All options are open to the court and your record is giving cause for concern, given your previous convictions for domestic assault and an assault with a knife in 2015.”

He released the accused on bail for the preparation of a Criminal Justice social work report.

He will learn of his fate when he appears at court next month.
