Renfrewshire carers are leading the way

Duo reap the benefits of new leadership course

Renfrewshire carers are the first in Scotland to benefit from a new leadership programme.

Care provider Pacific Care has worked in partnership with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to deliver a clinical leadership programme, which looks to shape and support the nursing leaders of the future.

Jemma Stevenson and Sue Mackle, from Mosswood Care Home in Linwood, joined Fe Albana and Richard Wilson, from Lillyburn Care Home, in Kirkintilloch, to work with RCN facilitator Sue Nash over nine months to complete the training scheme.

The team met at Mosswood this week for a presentation in celebration of their hard work and completion of the course.

Sue said staff and patients will benefit from the skills learned throught the leadership programme.

She said: “Sue, Richard, Fe and Jemma have been a pleasure to work with. They have all made a huge effort and have come a long way on their leadership journey.”

The programme gives staff the opportunity to develop positive and effective change within their organisation.

It supports staff at all levels – from individuals beginning their leadership career, to experienced leaders wishing to refine specific skills.

Pacific Care approached the RCN to bring the programme to Scotland’s care home sector as part of their commitment to staff development.

Janice Allan, Pacific Care healthcare director, said improving care quality is always a top priority.

She explained: “The nursing sector is under increasing amounts of pressure with recruitment shortages and Brexit looming ahead. We want to empower our staff and support them in being the best they can be.”
