Zach: Clan fans are just the best

He’s back for fourth season

- Craig Ritchie

Braehead Clan have confirmed the return of defenceman Zach Sullivan, who has committed his future to the side for his fourth season.

Sullivan becomes the side’s second signing of the close season, following in the footsteps of Great Britain international Craig Peacock.

The 22-year-old joined the side in 2014 from Basingstoke Bison, and has gone on to become a successful member of the squad.

Sullivan insists it was a straightforward decision to make to return to the squad as they start to ramp up their preparations ahead of the new campaign.

Sullivan said: “It was an easy choice to return for another year and since I first arrived three years ago, the club has always built towards bigger and better things.

“We’ve got a huge and amazing fanbase so making the choice was a no-brainer for me.

“Playing in Braehead Arena with a sell- out crowd, where you can’t hear yourself think on the bench because the fans are so loud, is always great for me.

“It gives you a rush and makes you want to go out and play better and really pushed you on to strive and perform for the supporters.

“The players don’t know who the new coach is going to be, but he’ll be coming a great set-up and will be good to push on to the silverware we all desperately want.

“For me, working with someone new will be a good thing and I’m looking forward to it when we know who it’s going to be.”

And S u l l i v a n ’s commitment to the cause has been greeted with delight by Clan hockey and operations director Gareth Chalmers.

Having seen Sullivan rack up just under 200 appearances for the side, Chalmers is keen to see him back in action in a purple jersey.

Chalmers added: “Agreeing a new improved deal with Zach was an easy decision. Since joining from Basingstoke, Zach has progressed into a very solid and dependable defenceman for the organisation.

“When we brought him to the club, we knew he was always going to be a long term project for the club.

“Pe r s o na l l y , I’m delighted to have seen his progression and he’s now knocking on the door of the national team.

“Despite interest from other EIHL clubs, I am delighted we’ve been able to come to an agreement.”
